For the most part, I follow a low-carb lifestyle. However, trial and error has taught me that just because a food is “low-carb” doesn’t mean it won’t cause a weight loss stall or in some cases weight gain.
Below, I have listed a few low-carb foods that created speed bumps during my 150-pound weight loss journey.
Remember there is no one size fits all approach to weight loss. If you still ate any of these foods and/or carbs and lost a substantial amount of weight…I’m jealous!
Our bodies respond to different methods of diet due to race, age, gender, family medical history, ethnicity and even whether or not you had kids. Different strokes for different folks.
I dunno any scientific reasons as to why these foods cause stalls. Perhaps it was the high fat content, I’m not sure. I just know that eating them didn’t give me the instant weight loss gratification that I wanted week-to-week:

Cheese is deemed “low carb,” however it is high in fat. This could attribute to the weight gain or weight stall. Also, cheese clogs your pipes.

All Nuts: You may constantly hear that nuts are “healthy” snack, they are. Still you should aim for eating no more than one palm-full of nuts per day. Or just have nuts every once in awhile. Eating too many nuts can cause the pounds to creep-up on you;-) Go for those individually packaged 100 calories packs of nuts, they prevent you from going overboard!

All Beans: Beans are great source of vegetarian protein. Yet again, they can bump the breaks in your weight loss. Stick to lean animal/fish protein if you can. Egg whites, chicken breasts and seafood. You don’t have to become a vegetarian to lose weight…I certainly ain’t…I eat meat!!!

Pork and Beef: Again it could be due to the high fat content. When I stuck to eating seafood and lean poultry, I lost more weight…and my skin and body just looked better. (Stomach always looked flatter;-)

Sugar Free Candy: First off, maybe it is just me, but sugar free candy taste like death.
Eating sugar-free candy can stall weight loss in addition to stimulating/increasing your appetite. Remember whenever your body senses something sweet, whether it be from real sugar or fake sugar, it stimulates/increases your appetite. Also, if you crave something sweet…it should be something more deserving than prepackaged candy. All your treats should be worth that time and energy you put-in exercising!
